Entebbe town is an iconic centre in Uganda located on the Lake Victoria peninsular. Entebbe lies on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, about 37 km, from Kampala, Uganda’s Capital and largest city in the country. It covers a total area of 56.2sq.km with a population of over 80,000 people
The town was administration town “The Seat” since the colonial times in Uganda prior to independence in 1962. Which it continues to be up to now.
Entebbe in local Luganda language means “The Seat” it was named that because it was the place where a Buganda chief Called Mugula assigned by the Kabaka to adjudicate legal cases in the status of the High Court, before any appeal to the Supreme Court, the Kabaka. It became the administrative and commercial Centre for the Protectorate Government in 1893 when Sir Gerald portal, a colonial commissioner used it as a base.
Entebbe has constant temperatures all- through the year, relatively with a very small range, due the equatorial climate, Entebbe is characterized with dense cloud cover, high and reliable rainfall as well as dense tropical rain forests
In Entebbe, there sits the only International Airport of Uganda, about 41km from Kampala city. Within the town of Entebbe, being strategically located near the International Airport and on the shores of the Lake Victoria, it has good Uganda safari hotels and guest houses that accommodate visitors upon their arrival without troubling to drive to Kampala, depending on their program of travel in the country.
